]]>The network on Thursday canceled The Winchesters and Kung Fu, and fans won't be getting conclusions for either show.
Kung Fu recently wrapped its third season on the network.
Series star Olivia Liang took to Instagram to say goodbye to the show.
“It has been the honor of my f–king life to work with this group of humans,” she wrote.
“We made a historic three seasons of a show. First predominantly Asian cast in a one-hour network drama. First Asian American female showrunner."
"I don’t have enough words (or room in this carousel) to express my gratitude to my showrunners, my writers, my cast, my stunt team, my f–king crew… I love you all.”
“I truly won the lottery,” she continued.
“They are all the kindest, smartest, funniest, most hard-working people in the biz. I am so so so proud of the work we did."
"Thank you to everyone who invited us into your homes and watched our little show that could. Cheers to Kung Fu, the show that changed my life forever. I love you, Nicky Shen.”
The Winchesters, a spinoff of Supernatural, recently wrapped its freshman season.
The series was a prequel to Supernatural and there were plans to incorporate more Supernatural alums as the series progressed.
It's unclear whether either of the shows will materialize elsewhere, but there is always that chance.
“As we reimagine the new CW, we had to make some tough programming decisions,” the network said in a statement.
“We thank our partners at Warner Bros. and the casts and creative teams of Kung Fu and The Winchesters for all their hard work, creativity and dedication.”
The CW previously canceled Stargirl and Walker: Independence.
The fate of Superman & Lois, All American Homecoming, and Gotham Knights are up in the air.

]]>Is hating another person bad? Hate is a double-edged sword that can help or destroy a person. Check out our list of characters who let hate power them up.
The post TV’s Best Hate-Driven Relationships appeared first on TV Fanatic.
]]>Hate must usually be checked; otherwise, it can become someone's downfall. But sometimes, it can be a driving force that helps someone better themselves.
Characters hate each other on TV all the time, and it's what makes for good drama and storyline.
We have compiled twenty characters who hated another character or each other so much that it had our hearts racing every time they interacted.
Some people have no business bringing new life into this world, and if there was ever such a person, according to Ray, it was his dad, Mickey.
Mickey was the walking definition of a bad father. He was abusive, promiscuous, and a total deadbeat grifter.
All these qualities affected his children so much that each one had a huge tragedy befall them. What irked Ray the most was how he was forced to grow up quickly to protect the other children.
It would escalate quickly when they were near other Ray had to be stopped multiple times before he killed Mickey.
Both characters were not good people by most means, but James hated Kanan passionately.
Growing up together in Queens, they were boys, but it all went south when Kanan was arrested because of James.
James hated that Kanan was impulsive and very casual about committing murder.
It all came to a head when Kanan tried to recruit James' son into their trade — drugs.
This was just a classic tale of romantic rivalry.
Both were in love with Victor, but Benji felt like he had a bigger claim because he was there first. He once saw Rahim kiss Victor, which was the nail in the coffin.
Although they made up later, it was fun to see Benji reach the end of his rope every time he saw Rahim or he was mentioned.
Yes, it is those people. A few shows have featured these characters, but we will focus on Leonardo (2018) because it highlights the rivalry perfectly.
Leonardo and Michaengelo existed in times when art was the thing.
It didn't help that society was constantly comparing them, and with Michangelo being younger, Leonardo felt like unfair standards were judging him.
Hope was one of her kind. In the show's universe, no one like her had existed. She was a hybrid who was also immortal and a living weapon of mass destruction for all factions.
Malivore was some aberration that could destroy Hope without dying.
Effectively, Hope's prerogative was to make sure Malivore didn't exist. It required some fear and a lot of hate.
Villanelle's thing was that she was an assassin, and Eve's thing was that she was a really good cop.
Eve had foiled multiple assassination attempts by Villanelle, which was bad for business.
With all the hate she could muster, Villanelle went after Eve but found the tables turned when she fell for her.
Bruce had designated himself the resident vigilante in Gotham. The Joker had designated himself the resident villain.
Bruce had spent his entire life trying to find out who murdered his parents, and the joker knew that was a sore spot. He kept pressing on it.
This resulted in hate developing organically in Bruce, and his hunt for The Joker was a tale that spun multiple seasons.
Saul was a lowly lawyer whom the more upscale lawyers didn't like. Hamlin was one such upscale lawyer.
Hamlin took every chance to embarrass Saul, whether in front of colleagues or Saul's brother.
Saul developed a lot of hate for Hamlin, and it was almost satisfying when Hamlin was murdered right in front of his eyes.
Set in a world where sight was deemed an abomination, the world set these characters on an epic collision course.
Tamacti Jun's life's work was finding and killing sighted people. Baba Voss' children were some of the most famous sighted children.
Although the universe later aligned their cause, the hate Baba Voss had for Tamacti Jun and the witchfinders, in general, couldn't be quantified.
Uncle Clifford must have a rule number somewhere for the girls who betray them.
And no one betrayed Uncle Clifford more than Hailey. She wanted to sell the inheritance their mother had left them.
That was reason enough to hate the heifer, and chile did Uncle Clifford read her the house down.
Nicky had fought many bad people before, but none were as powerful as Zhilan.
Nicky was dedicated to saving people's lives in her community, whether literally or otherwise. And Zhilan was an assassin who murdered her Shifu.
A Shifu is important to their student, and the act Zhilan committed rocked Nicky's world.
She developed so much hate for Zhilan it nearly consumed her.
Class was the definitive divider in this epic tale set inside moving trains.
Layton was the leader of the lower class, while Waterford had lorded himself over everyone. Wilford was an awful person who made an even worse leader.
Layton could not stand most of the things Wilford did, and he developed so much hate for the man. It was what pushed him to try and bring equality to the classes.
Everyone knows it. It's Bette and Tina forever. And subconsciously, Bette and Carrie knew it.
Bette was not perfect by any means, and it hurt her when Tina divorced her and was engaged to Carrie. Carrie could feel hate emanating from Bette every time she was around.
On being confronted about it, Bette made her feelings known. But was it Carries fault she couldn't be a better wife to Tina?
Some hate comes from a stupid place, and Major's hatred for Frank was so childish it was almost hilarious.
Catholics take their offerings seriously; no one did it more than Stanislaus. He donated a gift to the church only to discover Frank had donated a much more expensive gift.
He was angry at why a mere dock worker could afford such an expensive gift than a police major, and he developed some hate for Frank.
He channeled that hate into uncovering where Frank's irregular wealth came from, and even when Frank wasn't associated with corruption at the docks, Major still wanted him arrested for something.
Many characters in Cobra Kai are driven by hate. It started as a subtle rivalry between dojos and escalated to bullying.
Sam and Tori were viewed as the Queen Bee of their respective dojos, but there could only be one queen in the valley.
Hate started developing between them when boys came into the mix, and every interaction resulted in a small fight or an epic brawl.
Sam had a point to make, and Tori was not one to back down.
Joe's hate for Carole could also not be quantified.
Based on the true story of Joe Exotic — a big cat owner — and Carole Baskin — an animal rights activist — is something anyone with a Netflix account knew of in the 2020s.
Joe hated Carole so much that he would make up stories about her killing her husband and broadcasting it to the internet.
Hate was his undoing when he hired someone to murder Carole and was caught red-handed.
The hate between Miguel and Robbie was a complicated affair.
Like Sam and Tori, it started as a dojo rivalry that escalated with each season until it became hate.
In one of the many fights between the dojos, Robbie broke Miguel's backbone resulting in an injury that set Miguel back years. Miguel developed a lot of hate for Robbie, who reciprocated the feelings, and to hash it out, they fought.
Even though they became half-brothers later on, their hate for each other will always blemish their relationship.
It always seemed unfair how much Beth hated Jamie.
Her hatred stemmed from many reasons, but the primary one was how Jamie had her sterilized without her knowledge.
Apart from ruining lives, making Jamie's life a living hell might be the only reason Beth got up in the morning.
There was always something about billionaires that rubbed Chuck the wrong way. And having a political office behind him, he made it his mission to throw Bobby behind bars.
Bobby couldn't stand Chuck's holier than though attitude, and he also sought to uncover skeletons in Chuck's closet.
This gave birth to an epic rivalry spanning years as each tried to best the other.
Even in a world that sought to ensure women were powerless, some had more power than others.
June was the maid to the Waterford, and with Selena's little power, she ensured that June knew her position. She oversaw multiple atrocities committed on June and was even the instigator of some.
June developed a hate for Gilead but particularly for Selena, who stole her child. Words cannot quantify how much June wanted to see Selena and Gilead burn to ashes.
What do you think? Are there some characters whose behavior annoyed you?
Did we leave out some juicy ones?

The lack of premiere dates for the four returning shows and Gotham Knights makes it seem like the network might be holding those shows until later in 2023.
It's no secret that the network will very likely part ways with the bulk of its programming heading into next season.
Nexstar assumed control of 75% of the network and the aim is to get cheaper programming that is more profitable by 2025.

]]>Vanessa Yao is Kung Fu's latest star. TV Fanatic got the chance to speak about shooting impressive fight scenes, what's ahead for Mia, and more.
The post Kung Fu: Vanessa Yao Talks Fight Scenes, Mia’s Arc, & More appeared first on TV Fanatic.
]]>Debuting on Kung Fu Season 2 Episode 1 as Mia, Nicky's cousin, the character has quickly become one of the most popular on the show.
Vanessa opened up about what attracted her to the series, revealing that she got to watch all of Kung Fu Season 1 before landing the role.
"I binge-watched the whole thing, so I didn't have to wait like every week to see it. I loved the characters. It's so great to see the Asian representation," the star shared.
"That's something that's very rare, so it was definitely something like very eye-opening just to see different pieces of things that were like relatable."
"Another part would probably be the action sequences involved with it. They are amazing."
"When I did get the audition for Mia, I could feel that there was a lot to her. She was not one-dimensional. There was just so much involved with her."
"I just felt like there was a calling to me, and the way that she could be strong and vulnerable was something that I can play very well that's very true to myself."
"That was something that really intrigued me. I just felt like I had to do this; I had to just give it my all and see if perhaps they would cast me."
Vanessa also touched upon why she thinks Mia has connected with fans in such a short amount of time.
"I'm very raw, which is the way that I play her. If I feel something, then I will act it out in front of the cameras."
The star added she's unable to do things she doesn't feel, so she gets very invested in her characters to make sure she feels what they're feeling.
"If I don't feel something, I won't do it. I'm very real with my emotions. Perhaps when people are watching, they feel something for her, and they feel like they're there with Mia."
Vanessa said she wanted to take viewers on this journey with Mia.
Vanessa added that there is a lot on tap for Mia throughout the rest of the season.
In fact, from Kung Fu Season 2 Episode 5, Vanessa will appear in every episode as Mia.
"It's going to be very interesting," Vanessa adds, teasing that Mia will become more immersed in plots with the other characters.
"It's a very interesting dynamic because she's pretty anti-social too, and she's been very guarded."
"So the way she reacts to normal things is not what people would expect because she's very unpredictable and unstable."
If you watch Kung Fu online, you know the series has a lot of breathtaking fight scenes.
Vanessa revealed a lot goes into making them look that way.
"Usually we would have our stunts director and stunts choreographer on set with us, but before we even get on set, they usually have two hours with us."
"They package the fight scenes, and we would get to see a preview of what they would expect from us. and usually, it's crazy."
Vanessa said that the vibe on set is great, and there would be doubles shooting these scenes in case the actors need them.
"If there's anything hard or if we're like tough on time, they're always there to make sure we feel good about what we're doing."
"So it's just such a lovely environment to be in, where you feel safe, and you feel like, 'Okay, like I can do this.'"
Vanessa thanked the incredible teams behind the show for making the show look so good.
Vanessa has mostly starred in movies throughout her acting career and said that the pace of shooting a TV show is much faster than in movies.
The star also said that usually, with movies, she knows where her character will go, but shooting TV means that she learns things when the next script is released to the cast.
Kung Fu airs Wednesdays at 9 p.m. on The CW.

The post Kung Fu: Nicky Faces a Familiar Enemy in Season 2 Trailer appeared first on TV Fanatic.
]]>The CW has dropped a 70-second trailer for the Olivia Liang-led drama, and it looks like a lot of fun.
Nicky will be forced to go up against her long-lost cousin, Mia.
Kung Fu Season 1's central villain was Zhilan, who popped up sporadically throughout the season.
If you watch Kung Fu online, you know Nicky defeated her nemesis.
However, Yvonne Chapman will be back as a series regular this season, meaning fans will be getting a lot more Zhilan.
Kung Fu Season 1 was a strong performer for The CW, averaging 961,000 viewers and a 0.13 rating in the demo.
As a result, The CW issued a speedy renewal for Season 2.
"We are beyond proud to continue to share the stories of Nicky Shen and Courtney Whitmore, two strong, powerful young women at the center of this new generation of hit shows for The CW in Kung Fu and DC's Stargirl, said CW chairman Mark Pedowitz when the show was picked up alongside Stargirl.
"While each boasts remarkable talent on both sides of the camera, Kung Fu and Stargirl have not only treated fans to some visually stunning action and high-flying heroics, but they also both strike very powerful emotional chords as they delve into the family dynamics and personal relationships at their core, and we are so excited to see what happens next."
It will be exciting to see how the series holds up in the second season, but the first trailer looks very good.
The series also stars Tzi Ma as Nicky’s father Jin Chen, a restaurant owner with secrets of his own that could spell doom for their family business, Kheng Hua Tan as Nicky’s mother Mei-Li Chen, a woman who helped her husband with his business and also holds some big secrets of her own.
Also, Jon Prasida is Nicky’s brother Ryan Chen, and Shannon Dang is Nicky’s older sister Althea Chen, who just got engaged and is focused on planning the perfect wedding for her perfect life.
The reboot also includes Tony Chung as Althea’s fiancé Dennis, Gavin Stenhouse as Assistant District Attorney, and Nicky’s ex-boyfriend Evan, and Eddie Liu as her new love interest Henry.
Check out the trailer below.
Catch the premiere Wednesday, March 9 on The CW.

]]>Kung Fu Season 1 Episode 10 brings the trajectory of the show back on track, but still doesn't meet the quality seen in earlier episodes. Check out why in our review now!
The post Kung Fu Season 1 Episode 10 Review: Choice appeared first on TV Fanatic.
]]>Evan received help from Nicky and Althea on a complex case, while Ryan introduced his boyfriend, Joe, to his parents.
Zhilan's side of the episode happened to be the best, with her and Kerwin facing some trouble.
Nine episodes had passed since Ryan talked about when he came out to his parents on Kung Fu Season 1 Episode 1. I thought that they might have forgotten about the struggle with coming out to parents altogether.
Thankfully I got proved wrong with Choice.
Ryan did something that sometimes proves to be more complicated than coming out — he introduced his boyfriend to his parents.
Seeing as Ryan revealed that his parents did not take his coming out well, his nerves proved to be a big obstacle.
His parents ended up being pleasant and happy for him — something unexpected and exciting to see, even if it may be a bit unrealistic.
I'm pleased that they portrayed him as happy, but I am disappointed that they didn't take a more realistic approach.
In the premiere, he stated that his parents did not take his coming out well. Having them pleased that he suddenly has a boyfriend seemed a bit of a complete 180 to me.
While it truly is lovely to see a happy moment in an LGBTQ+ growth story, it just seemed a bit forced.
Joe got along with Mei-Li and Jin very well. However, the meetup was not without issues, and the drama happened after they spent time together.
Joe revealed he got recruited to go to Chicago. The reaction from Ryan seemed so honest, and seeing him go from happy to heartbreak almost immediately was devastating.
Ryan knew that Joe would have to go to Chicago, but the sadness and angst still found a way through.
They ended the conversation on a low note, and I hope we see more of Ryan's emotions in the remainder of the season.
Meanwhile, Nicky and Evan teamed up to try and prove a college kid's innocence.
With this team-up, the show reverted to the case of the week format. Luckily, that format works well with the show, and the writers don't overuse it.
Throughout the case, Nicky, Evan, and Althea managed to uncover emotions and information about themselves that they did not know in the past.
Nicky officially told Evan she wants to date Henry; Evan started questioning if he wants to continue being a police officer. Althea decided to call the lawyer in the morning about breaking the NDA.
Althea's decision stemmed from a beautiful speech she gave to the only witness to the crime they were trying to find the truth to.
It was a moment of complete emotion that showed her at her most vulnerable and most assertive.
The case hit some low spots, like when Nicky went undercover at the college party.
The fight scene with the frat boys ended up missing the mark and, like in Isolation, seemed quite forced and played out poorly.\
Luckily, the most intriguing storyline came from two characters who keep getting more interesting: Zhilan and Kerwin.
Kerwin's dad decided to send men to raid Zhilan's place, leaving Kerwin and her in a difficult situation.
Kerwin's allegiances got tested, and he ended up sticking with Zhilan in a shocking scene where he stabbed his father's man to death.
Kerwin and Zhilan's chemistry rivals that of any powerhouse romance movie. Their intimacy and relationship strengthen each airing, and the performances blow some of the other actors out of the water.
Zhilan did not take Kerwin's choice completely wide with her light, and she seemed pretty pleased (she is NOT someone you want to get on the wrong side).
Kerwin received (more) emotional trauma because stabbing the man happened to be his first time killing someone.
Zhilan and Kerwin's dynamic also proved to be supportive, as Zhilan helped comfort him as he processed what he'd done.
Their storyline keeps getting more interesting, and with the season running out of episodes, I'm excited to see where we leave off the couple (Kerlan? I need to think of a ship name Zhiwin?).
In the coming episodes, relationships will experience different emotional trials.
Althea decided to break her NDA and get a lawyer, so emotions between her and Dennis will be high (and let's not forget about their wedding).
Jin and Mei-Li's relationship slowly but surely repairs itself in each episode, but it'll be interesting to see where they end up.
Nicky and Henry finally made each other somewhat official, and treading new waters of a relationship proves never to be easy (not to mention how Nicky and Evan will be around each other).
Lastly, Joe and Ryan's relationship may come to a pause, a stumble, an emotional standoff, I could go on! They are going to navigate some difficult emotions.
The central conflict and plot mainly got addressed through Zhiwin (Kerlan), but Nicky did find a new clue.
Henry left a tape playing as they kissed, and they got to hear her Aunt sing a lovely song in Chinese.
The lyrics of the song? Clues to a location that will guide them on their quest.
So Kung Fu fanatics, what did you think of Choice?
Do you like the path that Nicky's taking?
How do you feel about Zhilan and Kerwin, and what do you think their ship name should be?
Let us know in the comments below, and as always, remember to watch Kung Fu online!

]]>Nicky and the gang went off to Canada in Kung Fu Season 1 Episode 9, where the past is revealed and emotional discoveries are made. Check out our review here!
The post Kung Fu Season 1 Episode 9 Review: Isolation appeared first on TV Fanatic.
]]>The adventure led Nicky to go solo through the forest in Canada, and the dialogue often fell flat without her character's help.
The tamest of the season, Kung Fu Season 1 Episode 9, failed to provide a powerful punch and often disappointed.
Henry, Evan, and Nicky's trip to Canada started slow and ended, well, slow.
The writing brought about a solo journey for Nicky, leaving the two men to interact and bond. Sadly, only one of those two plot points succeeded.
Seeing Evan and Henry talking with each other and getting along was a lovely change from their usual tense dynamic.
They both learned to respect each other, and most importantly, to respect Nicky and her emotional choices. The strong evolution of their allyship and now friendship happens naturally on the screen.
The potential that the solo quest through the wilderness contained was high, but the execution completely missed the mark.
A non-menacing wolf and pretty lackluster production value, the entirety of the scene disappointed.
The climax of the scene is also disappointing, which showed Nicky suddenly in the right place.
The show features mysticism in some aspects, but the magic forest trope presented itself too conveniently.
If Nicky's adventure through the woods was expanded upon, if more was shown in relation to that (not easy) journey, then the quality of the hour would not have lacked nearly as much.
The fight scene in this episode felt forced. The combat looked like it did at the beginning of the season: choppy and sloppy.
The staging of the choreography needs to be consistent, and sadly that was not the case.
The reason for the fight was also forced and messy. Nicky bothered a guy, so one of his friends decided to beat her up.
I know that the show often relies on action sequences to show the prowess of Nicky Shen, but a bar fight? They could have made a better choice.
When Nicky finished her shortened journey, the spirit of Pei-Ling visited her again. Pei-Ling continues to be a breath of fresh air, for Nicky and the story.
The story benefits from the appearance of her spirit guide, and Pei-Ling always shows up to ask Nicky the right questions and steer her in the right direction.
The use of a deceased mentor is not uncommon, but Kung Fu manages to pull off this trope for a few reasons.
Most importantly, Vanessa Kai constantly proves that she knows what she's doing with this character, and I love Pei-Ling more every time she is on screen.
The writers are also handling her appearances well, having them not be too common or too distracting for the view or Nicky.
Pei-Ling showed up in Nicky's cabin not to give her major advice, but to make sure Nicky asked the right questions.
Nicky and Zhilan's journies are intercut a lot this time around, and Zhilan had some very interesting moments with Kerwin. Their relationship evolved professionally and personally.
The intimate moments they shared got ruined by a secret about Kerwin's family, and Zhilan pried to get information out of him.
It seems that Zhilan may not entirely be on board with her romantic/sexual relationship with Kerwin.
In the last scene, as they were getting intimate, Zhilan's eyes were open and staring off into the distance menacingly.
I think Zhilan does enjoy his company, but once she gets what she needs from him I think she is going to leave Kerwin behind.
She constantly proves that she works for herself and wants to fulfill her agenda, not anyone else's (like when she forced Kerwin to tell her information he didn't want to talk about.
I'm interested to see how Zhilan and Kerwin are going to handle their ever-evolving relationship.
Both parties are very headstrong and stubborn and may prove to be worthy advisories.
As a quick aside, Yvonne Chapman continues to dazzle in the role of Zhilan. Her small movements and intricacies really help to make Zhilan all the more menacing.
Mei-Li and Jin's relationship continues to struggle, and it hurts to watch.
Their pain and emotion transcends the screen and affects me, almost to the point of tears.
The character development has gone nicely and with the end of the season fast approaching, the actors seem to have settled into their characters well and implement many wonderful subtleties that are a delight to watch.
Despite Isolation being a bit slow, the consistency of storytelling is something that should be commended.
Even with the new reveal of Nicky's Aunt (Mei-Li's sister), everything makes sense.
Everything revealed at the cabin lines up with previous information — and expands on it.
The execution lacked this episode, and I'm hoping it's a one-time thing.
The episodes have been VERY consistent, and I hope the quality of the show can be maintained in the final few episodes.
